Hey Smartpreneurs! We had an interesting Instagram Live session with Maryam Giwa on Thursday, May 28, 2020. The discussion was themed Being an Entrepreneur in the Creative Industry: My Experience

Our guest was Maryam Opeyemi Giwa popularly known as The Maryam Giwa (TMG). She is a jack that has mastered her many trades! She is the managing partner at KPMH Digital –a media and news company and KP Events and Tours. She is a serial creative who has successfully utilised the digital media through platforms, such as let’s talk millennnials and Tales by Maryam Giwa, in creating and executing various humanitarian projects and has inspired thousands of millennials in various capacities. Maryam identifies as a storyteller, she is a write, a public speaker and a brand image professional and influencer. She is also a film enthusiast who recently released her debut short film titled Two Way Street in collaboration with Guguru studios.

  1.  “As a creative, your creativity should not be limited to only when you have jobs to do”
  2. “Wake up every day and just create something awesome even though you’re just going to post it on your social media page and if you don’t post it on social media, put it on your WhatsApp. Just make sure you do something every day”
  3. “There’s nobody that you can’t talk to, you just need to know how to talk to them”
  4. “Sometimes you might not have the money; you just need the human capital. You need to connect to those people that can lead you”

  8.  “Make sure at every point in time, you sound like someone who actually knows about what you sell and the industry you’re playing in”
  9. “Be on a quest for thought leadership as opposed to just profit-making because once you become a thought leader in your industry, no one is going to take away your profit”
  10.  “Do not ever underestimate the power of collaboration”
  11.  “Always check your emails and DMs you never know who is trying to give you an opportunity”
  12.  “You just have to keep moving regardless of what comes at you. The time you spend crying or worrying about something can actually be spent do something else about it”
