The much-anticipated release of Xolo Songca’s third literature offering is due to be released next month on 17 August. The author, who turns 32 years of age two days prior to the event noted how extremely excited he was to be ushering in a new level of political and historical thinking in a space that has a vacuum for his type of political thought. “I’m highly eager to have everyone who loves literature, politics, South African and world history to pick up this book. It is unlike anything I have worked on before.”
When asked where did this book idea come about he noted that “the book has been lingering in my mind for quite some time before I began the writing process. I began officially drafting the first chapter in October 2020 and I wanted to give myself enough time to not only opinionate on aspects of the South African political landscape but also conduct in-depth research so I have quoted a lot of other people’s opinions which I feel resonate deeply with mine as well. I quote people like Steve Biko, Frantz Fanon, Aimé Cesaire, Amilcar Calbral and many other whom I feel were of the same political thought as myself and from whom I draw much inspiration from. So, this book is a scholarly offering as much as it is a political and historical one. There are many other topics that I touch on which I deem are social ills. There is something in the book for everyone, you don’t have to be politically informed to enjoy it.”

“The book was officially completed in 2022 but I had left it in the archives for an entire year last year which was 2023 due to a certain apprehensiveness that I had regarding the content. I just wasn’t sure how people would receive the manuscript and whether or not it would rub them up the wrong way. This year I finally gathered up the courage to publish it through ie Publishers and decided to launch it. One could say that all those fears were conquered because this country’s turbulent past and its effects have to be addressed and I would be eternally regretful if I would not do so when I knew the best way to do so.”
The book launch will be held at Aha Gateway Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban and the attendees have been chosen through invitation. The book will also be made available at all book retail outlets across the country such as Exclusive Books, Bargain Books and smaller retailers. The official release date will be the 17th of August however the manuscript will be available in stores nationwide from October 2024.
