United Bank for Africa (UBA) has launched an enhanced Point of Sale (POS) terminal and an upgraded version of its UBA MONI app. This digital upgrade is designed to ease transactions, improve financial access, and drive growth among entrepreneurs on the continent.
The upgraded UBA POS terminal offers features that matter most to businesses: instant settlement, real-time transaction tracking, and pay-by-link functionality. These additions mean business owners no longer have to wait days for payments to clear, a pain point that has long limited SME cash flow.
Alongside this is the newly revamped MONI app, which is now more intuitive and feature-packed. Entrepreneurs can now perform seamless transfers, monitor transactions in real-time, and enjoy improved security features such as secret questions and advanced user authentication. The app also supports agency banking operations, making it easier for mobile agents to deliver financial services in underserved communities.

Shamsideen Fashola, UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, noted that these innovations are part of the bank’s strategy to provide “convenience and confidence” in every business transaction. “With our vast network and secure infrastructure, we are enabling small businesses to thrive by giving them the digital tools they need,” he added.
Powering Africa’s Digital Economy
UBA’s latest innovations arrive at a time when more SMEs are embracing technology to stay competitive and expand their reach. By offering fast, secure, and user-friendly solutions, the bank is positioning itself as a key driver of Africa’s digital financial ecosystem.
With operations in over 20 African countries and a presence in key global markets, UBA continues to invest in scalable technology aimed at reducing barriers for entrepreneurs. The upgraded POS and MONI app are expected to empower thousands of business owners across retail, hospitality, logistics, and other sectors—especially those previously underserved by traditional banking services.
As financial technology continues to reshape commerce across Africa, UBA’s latest rollout shows a clear commitment to inclusion, innovation, and growth for the continent’s vibrant community of entrepreneurs.
