In a significant move to bolster youth employability and entrepreneurship, Jobberman Nigeria, in collaboration with the MasterCard Foundation and The Inspired Decision, has initiated a free job skills training program targeting over 30,000 young individuals in Akwa Ibom State. This initiative is part of the second phase of the Young Nigeria Works program, building upon the success of the first phase, which trained 2.3 million youths and facilitated 500,000 job placements.
Aimed at youths aged 18 to 35, the program offers comprehensive training in soft skills such as emotional intelligence, time management, and job interview preparation. Additionally, it covers essential entrepreneurship skills, including business planning, branding, and legal fundamentals. The training is designed to address the job-readiness gap in Nigeria, where many graduates are considered unemployable due to a lack of practical skills.

Innih Ikhide, Head of Youth Engagement at Jobberman, emphasized the program’s goal to equip participants with the necessary skills to either secure employment or launch their own businesses. He highlighted the importance of bridging the skills gap to meet the demands of the modern workforce.
The initiative has garnered positive feedback from participants. Peace Edet, a fashion designer, shared how the training enhanced her customer relations and business planning skills. Local government officials have also expressed support, encouraging trainees to fully leverage the opportunity.
Looking ahead, the organizers plan to host a career fair, job clinic, and a forum promoting disability inclusion, further expanding the program’s impact. This initiative aligns with Jobberman’s broader mission to upskill five million young Nigerians and place them in dignified employment.
