More than 1,000 women in Kano State are set to receive financial support of up to ₦500,000 each under a new poultry and fish farming empowerment programme.
The scheme is being run by the National Productivity Centre (NPC) to increase women’s involvement in agriculture and strengthen their economic capacity.
Dr Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, Director General of the NPC, announced the initiative while speaking to beneficiaries in Kano. He said the programme will provide practical training in poultry and fish farming before disbursing funds to help participants launch or grow their businesses.

Forms have already been distributed for enrolment in the training phase, which will come before any money is handed out.
“After completing the training, each participant will receive up to ₦500,000 to establish or scale up their poultry and fish farming ventures,” Dr Agundi said.
He thanked Abba Kabir Abubakar Bichi for his role in delivering on the programme’s commitments and for backing other empowerment efforts across the state.
During a meeting with cluster chairmen, women leaders and representatives of Tinubu Support Groups in Kano, Dr Agundi praised the unity and commitment of those involved. He encouraged them to keep mobilising support and said the empowerment push was part of a wider effort to improve livelihoods and promote economic inclusion at the grassroots.
He confirmed that resources and financial support would be distributed monthly as part of NPC’s continued work to improve productivity and cut poverty among women entrepreneurs in Kano.
