Making money while in school can be tough. Juggling studies, classes, assignments and exams with a side hustle or business is not an easy task but once a student entrepreneur is able to start a side business, he or she will find and understand the balance.

Without further ado, here are some ways a student can legitimately make money while in school:

1. Sell Clothes and Fashion Accessories

We all know that young people and fashion are inseparable. Selling nice and affordable clothes and accessories can open the doors of extra cash for you. Especially when you target female students. You can later expand this business when you’re done with school, get your business name registered and make bigger orders for customers with higher purchasing power.

2. Start tutorials

If you’re one of the best in your class and like the idea of teaching, you can focus on a course you are really good at, and charge fellow students for your lessons.

Students will want to pay for your tutorials because you’re simply one of them, and you are probably more approachable compared to course lecturers.

You can have a tutorial session every weekend charging about N1,000 or more. This is an opportunity to impact people while making money on the side.

3. Gadget repairs

If you know about computer, phone and tablet repairs, you can start  this as a student hustle because there will always be one issue or another with people’s devices. They are very important tools when in school. Students use their phones and laptops for assignments, research, projects, etc. So this can be a lucrative side hustle for a student to make extra cash.

4. Facebeat, nails, heads gears (gele)

This category is a very popular side hustle idea for students wanting to make money while in school. If you’re not yet perfect in nails, makeup and head gears, then you might want to consider going online (YouTube) and learning the skills.

Girls always want to look their best for campus/ off campus events, school pageantry, etc.  If you’re so good, you can become one of the beauty plugs for girls on campus.

5.Hair stylist/barber

Hair styling is really profitable in school because students always want to look their best. The ladies make their hair, the guys cut theirs. A female student in a female hostel can get at least three customers in a weekend, ready to install weaves or braid their hair. Same goes for the guys.

6. Cook and sell

This is very possible for Federal and state schools where students are allowed to have their own pots and cook in a kitchen. This might not be the case for private schools. If you are in an environment where cooking is allowed, and If you can cook delicious meals to satisfy hungry students then you’ve won! You can own a small space in school or close to school where people can buy food from you. Food is very important to students yet a lot of them do not have the time and energy to prepare palatable meals so why not save them the stress in exchange for a small amount of money?

7. Photography

Photography is another strong means of making money while in school. In tertiary institutions, there will always be need for photographers to come in. Events such as matriculations, convocations, faculty week, departmental week, final year dinners,  hostel week, and many more always require the presence of photographers.

You can also have work opportunities outside of school on weekends depending on how good you are.
