The Lagos State Government has taken another bold step toward youth empowerment. It recently trained 250 young entrepreneurs through the Life Skills and Economic Empowerment Programme. This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to job creation and financial independence.

Practical Business Skills for Entrepreneurs

Through this program, participants received hands-on training in areas like financial management, business planning, customer relations, and digital marketing. As a result, they now feel better equipped to start or grow their businesses.

Additionally, the government provided starter kits and mentorship to help them launch or scale their ventures immediately. For instance, one fashion business owner shared how the training helped her track expenses and make smarter financial decisions.

Moreover, the sessions emphasized discipline, innovation, and goal setting, key values for entrepreneurial success.

Sustained Government Support for SMEs

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Akinbile-Yusuf, highlighted the program’s role in reducing unemployment. She emphasized that it aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s larger vision of a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Lagos.

Notably, many of the participants now plan to formalize their businesses, apply for funding, and even hire others. This ripple effect could significantly impact the state’s economy over time.

Furthermore, Lagos State has shown consistency in empowering small businesses. Just last year, similar programs supported hundreds of entrepreneurs across various sectors. Young business owners are encouraged to stay connected to such initiatives. By doing so, they can access ongoing support, scale faster, and contribute to job creation in their communities.

This empowerment scheme adds to Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to tackle poverty, reduce unemployment, and drive grassroots entrepreneurship. For Nigerian entrepreneurs looking for models of sustainable impact, Lagos’ approach serves as an example of how public-private collaboration can uplift local talent and build thriving micro-enterprises.
