Everyone gets busy during the holidays, with work, school or personal life. But even with all the activities and tight schedules, we should not let the year pass by without showing gratitude to those around us.

For business owners of any size, appreciation should not be preserved for only customers; your team members who made sure your clients were satisfied should not be left out. Without the team, your business would not survive. Many employers may choose not to do employee recognition during the holidays, probably because of time and cost while some might think that it’s simply unnecessary.

The way you are encouraged to do more when a client gives great reviews, that is the same way your employees would be motivated to do more when appreciated. Having happy employees lead to increased productivity and higher long-term earnings.

Four Ways To Show Gratitude To Your Employees:

Choosing one or more of these four ideas during the holidays would truly send the message to your team that you care about them and appreciate their efforts towards the business.

A Responsible Party

This is a classic appreciation option from employers to employees. It’s an amazing way for employees to bond with one another. These people literally work all the time so it would be awesome to have them relax, socialise and chat about interesting subjects other than marketing, sales and strategy.

Your team would feel more connected and they would know that their employer cares for them as individuals rather than a bunch of people monitored for their output.

Gifts

Who is not a fan of gifts? Employees would appreciate physical gifts, but you have to be careful here. If you must get them gifts, ensure they would be great for everyone. In fact it is better to buy the same item but if you have a small team and you know what appeals to each person, then you can go ahead to buy personalized gifts if you can afford them.

Make sure that the gifts do not pass a subliminal message or something insensitive.

Bonuses

This could be an alternative to physical gifts if you cannot afford both. If you choose to offer bonuses, decide if everyone gets the same amount or if there should be a difference based on performance.

If you choose to attach a personalized thank you email to this, it’s also fine.

Bonuses are a great way of saying that you noticed the efforts and contributions of your employees and that you look forward to working with them in the coming year.

Openly say thanks.

You could schedule a session with the entire team or groups to appreciate them, verbally communicating how their work ethics have added more value to the business.

Another way to go about this is by sending personalized hand-written thank you notes to each member of the team.

Why Employee Appreciation Matters?

Holiday appreciation pays off in the new year and even the long run.

As we approach the end of the year, people do a alot of reflection taking into account their work experiences and more. This period offers the perfect exit and the decision to either stay or leave is dependent on one’s experience and perception of their current workplace.

Adequate employee appreciation makes employees feel acknowledged. Creating positive relationships and experiences would make team members to consider working with you in the coming year. Therefore, employee recognition cultivates meaningful connections that encourage employee retention and improved performance.

Fortunately, investing in staff recognition and appreciation helps your workers feel stronger ties to your company and better. It’s basically a win for everyone since productivity and commitment would increase, leading to quality business operations and productivity.

The Bottom Line

Employee appreciation is not a waste of time and effort. It plays a pivotal role in employee retention and performance.

Showing your employees you care about them using any or a couple of the aforementioned ways would be of immense help to your company now and in the future.

However, employee appreciation is not an idea that should be limited to the holidays. It should be embedded in your business activities all year round to keep employees motivated and engaged all the way.
