In a move to bolster economic resilience and alleviate the impact of COVID-19, the Ogun State Government has commenced the second phase of its N1 billion grant disbursement to micro and small enterprises (MSEs). This initiative aims to revitalize businesses, foster job creation, and stimulate economic growth across the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, recognizing the critical role of MSEs in the state’s economy, has directed the immediate commencement of the grant disbursement process. This second phase will target entrepreneurs across Ogun State, providing them with the necessary financial resources to enhance their operations and expand their businesses.
To kick-start the second phase, a stakeholder engagement session will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Obas Complex Hall, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. This session is specifically designed for legitimate business owners in the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
Subsequent stakeholder engagement sessions will be held in Ogun West and East Senatorial Districts, with dates and times to be announced soon. These sessions will provide participants with comprehensive information about the application process, eligibility criteria, and grant disbursement procedures.
In the first phase of the grant program, the Ogun State Government disbursed over N120 million to more than 1,000 micro and small entrepreneurs across the state’s twenty local government areas. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the timely support, highlighting the significant impact the grant has had on their businesses and livelihoods.
Trade associations representing the beneficiaries, including the Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), Joint National Association of Persons Living With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Artisans Groups, and Market Men and Women, commended Governor Abiodun’s unwavering commitment to supporting MSEs during challenging times.
The Ogun State Government’s N1 billion grant initiative demonstrates its dedication to empowering MSEs, fostering economic growth, and creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. By providing much-needed financial assistance, the government is empowering entrepreneurs to contribute to the state’s economic recovery and prosperity.
