For as long as I could remember my mom had always been one of those moms who took healthy living personally, even for her kids.
Growing up my siblings and I had very strict routines and timetables; from playtime to meals, my mom made us live by a set of rules: chocolate once every two weeks, herbal detox (agbo), intermittent fasts, vegetarian meals, morning and evening walks, the list is endless.
At that time I could swear my mom was the worst, I would watch other kids at school have candy, pastries, and fizz drinks.
The kids at school would play so carefree and carelessly, and me? IÂ would be so jealous. Often times I would even ask for some of their snacks because mom never gave us pocket money to make sure we never went behind her to have junk food. It was all so stressful at that time. It wasn’t until I got older that I began to understand what it was all for.
My mom had lost both her parents early to diabetes and high blood pressure and I believe that was the birth of the woman she turned out to be.
when I finally left home for secondary school I finally had the chance to eat all the junk I never got to eat, until I got back home and had to drink loads of agbo and get back into the system; as my siblings and I called it.
I’m an adult now and I always get compliments about my skin, hair and body, everything in general. At the time it meant nothing to me, I wasn’t even aware that people had skincare problems, hair loss, weight problems, etc.
Where I worked before, a colleague of mine had asked my help, she was trying to lose weight and get fit. She approached me one day and asked that I coach her and tell her everything I do to stay fit, me being a clown all I did was replicate my childhood routine, draw a more advanced plan for her and that was it. From time to time she would call for advice and directions which I would give.
Two months later she came to me and I was amazed at how healthy and well she looked. she had lost some weight and looked fresh and happy, I was stunned! she went on and on with the thanks and then told me about a friend of hers who needed my help and was willing to pay and that my friends is how the journey of ZEN BODY began.
Of course!, I had to add other qualifications and training to myself, hire staff, invent products, create an online presence, all of which were tasking if I’m being sincere but after some months my business was officially on.
meal plans, bottled and packaged agbo, natural meals, trainers, meal suppressants, etc. were some products and services my business offered.
It took some time but in no little while, I was able to build a clientele of satisfied customers and soon became a well-known brand nationwide.
And that my friends is how I made money from my childhood trauma, ok let me not be too dramatic…. my childhood routines.
