Videos are more powerful than still images when it comes to marketing. They are simply more compelling when used and applied the right way.
In a Smartpreneur live session with founder, VideoBizng and video content expert, Harry Obi, the importance of video content in marketing was discussed as well as the best tips business owners must adhere to when creating a video that will promote sales and brand image.
1. Understand the story/message
When creating a video for your brand or product, you must first understand the story you want to share through your video. This will help you find your authenticity. Quality isn’t only defined by the apps used or the aesthetic appeal. Your content must answer the following questions:
- What is my message?
- What is the problem?
- What is the solution and how is my product or service solving the problem?
- This message is for whom?
Do your research and understand why people would want to buy a product or service. Also figure out the type of video content that they love to consume. You might not like a video but it might end up being the video that captures and speaks to your customers.
2. Understand shooting techniques
According to Harry Obi, a common mistake made by people when shooting a video is being too close to the wall for indoor shoots. You need depth of field in your video. Do not stay in front of a plain wall. There should be décor, plants, shelves, etc behind as a background.
Another thing to note here is that when making a video that involves you speaking or explaining something, be natural. People can easily tell when you’re uncomfortable. This can be distracting for people when watching. Speak the way you would if you weren’t filming. Don’t act like a robot!
3. Understand the first few seconds
Guess what? If you’re working with a product, you do not necessarily have to introduce it in the first few seconds of your video. The first ten seconds of a video must grab people’s attention. You can decide to build anticipation before bringing the product being showcased or advertised into view.
Remember to be creative and smart about your video content creation.
Harry spoke about the tools to use when shooting a video and alternatives if you’re on a budget, the various types of videos and their functions.
