A new non-governmental organisation, the SlumPACT Initiative, has officially launched in Nigeria with a mission to improve living conditions in informal settlements while empowering women, youths, and vulnerable communities across the country.
The initiative comes at a time when millions of Nigerians living in underserved communities continue to face serious challenges such as poor housing, unemployment, inadequate healthcare, and social exclusion. According to the organisation, its goal is to bridge the gap between disadvantaged populations and sustainable economic opportunities through community-driven development programmes.
Speaking during the launch event, founder Prof. Davies Adeloye explained that the organisation is focused on unlocking the hidden potential within underserved communities rather than simply addressing poverty.
He noted that many informal settlements are filled with talented young people and hardworking women who only need access to opportunities, skills, and support systems to thrive.

Focus on Women and Youth Empowerment
One of the major highlights of the initiative is its strong focus on women and youth empowerment in Nigeria. The organisation revealed that its programmes will prioritise skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, public health awareness, and advocacy for inclusive urban development policies.
The group also stated that collaboration will be central to its strategy, as it plans to work closely with government institutions, development agencies, private sector partners, and local communities to ensure long-term impact.
This development aligns with growing national conversations around youth empowerment, sustainable urban development, and poverty reduction initiatives in Nigeria. Stakeholders at the launch described the project as timely, especially as Nigeria’s urban population continues to grow rapidly.
Why This Matters for Nigerian SMEs and Communities
For small business owners and entrepreneurs operating within informal settlements, initiatives like SlumPACT could create new opportunities for economic growth and community development.
By investing in skills training, local enterprise support, and community resilience, the organisation hopes to help residents build sustainable livelihoods and reduce poverty levels in vulnerable areas.
Experts believe that empowering underserved communities, especially women-led businesses and young entrepreneurs, could significantly contribute to Nigeria’s broader economic growth and social development goals.
Building Sustainable Communities
The organisation also pledged transparency, accountability, and measurable impact as it begins operations in selected communities.
SlumPACT is calling on government agencies, development organisations, corporate bodies, and individuals to partner in building more resilient communities and creating pathways out of poverty for vulnerable Nigerians.
