I have always had a good eye for beautiful things, irregularly shaped chairs, abstract paintings and pieces, sculptures and statues, and all-around beautiful things. even when IÂ was broke, I knew how my living rooms and bedrooms would look once I could finally have my own place.
I love neutral colors and tones: beige, olive green, magenta, burgundy, burnt orange, white, brown, etc. I loved the idea of living like you were on holiday at your favorite destination, Paris home decor when you’re actually still in Africa. Even when I was young and still living with my parents my bedroom looked like a different place entirely from my home, with my garden plants and wooden interior. My friends would often talk about how my room didn’t feel like Nigeria, I even had a friend of mine who came all the way just to take pictures in my room.
I finally had my own place and not much had changed, I still had those little souvenirs and pieces I had during my childhood and had successfully incorporated them into my decor, and people who visited loved it.
I made friends with a carpenter who had his factory down my street, he helped me create little pieces which were large parts of my furniture which he personally duplicated to sell to other customers because according to him people loved them when they saw them being made, all I can say is I have great taste.
I knew what I wanted to do with my life and how I wanted to live it but atlas in the words of a great musician “If you no get money e dey kill idea”. yes, Buju! I agree.
for the longest time, I had thought about what my breakthrough would be like, and honestly, I had worked hard for it, I had to do a lot of ass-kissing and following around even free jobs it was all so tiring and I couldn’t take it anymore and so finally I decided to start my youtube channel and talk about what I knew best, interior decorating. The first few months were devastating, I only had fifty subscribers who were mostly friends and family, I was honestly so unmotivated and I almost quit until the unexpected happened, a very popular YouTuber spoke about me on her channel, she mostly talked about how beautiful my apartment was and how helpful my channel was for people who didn’t know how to decorate their homes. I woke up to six hundred new subscribers and counting by the second, some of which went ahead to watch my youtube videos and even left comments. most of them couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful my apartment was and how unbelievable it was that I was in Nigeria. I had to think of a smart way to capitalize and milk the opportunity.
I decided to message the YouTuber who posted my video and asked to collaborate with her, I was so anxious as to what her response would be, and to my surprise was so receptive and even gave me content ideas.
I hadn’t even dropped a new video and I already had a thousand subscribers, I was so excited for the new content we had planned to put out but I was also anxious.
In the youtube video, I gave my new YouTuber friend a room makeover with budgeted and DIY items and the room turned out to be amazing. I was so proud, she made so many videos and made them into TikToks and Instagram reels and when I tell you they blew up! I got many followers, comments, and even people asking me to style their living rooms and parlors, and that my friends is how I became an interior decor/ furniture influencer.
I partner with many furniture stores and brands, have styled some very popular restaurants, hotels, and celebrity homes. right now I’m working towards starting my own furniture line.
